My walk with Ellory

My son Ellory visited Shaver’s Creek today, and we took a walk in the woods to find out what the summer campers were up to. Along the way we heard Scarlet Tanager, Ovenbird, Black-throated Green Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo singing.

When we caught up to the campers, they were ankle deep in Shaver’s Creek staying cool while conducting a stream study. As soon as we arrived, some kids spotted a Wood Turtle along the banks of the creek.

As we worked our way downstream, we found Rhododendron blooming under a dense canopy of Eastern Hemlock.

Crossing the boardwalk on our return walk, we were greeted with beautiful white umbels of Black Elderberry.

Back at the Center, the Butterfly Weed is still going strong.

More on our great start to Summer Camp later…
