Whether it’s your first time visiting Shaver’s Creek or you know our trails like your own backyard, be sure to visit the Weidemann Bookstore and Gift Shop during your visit.
The bookstore is your one-stop-shop for nature field guides and writings from popular naturalists, many of them particular to central Pennsylvania. We carry all the well-known and must-have guides — written by Peterson, Sibley, and others — about birds, reptiles, amphibians, trees, flowers, mushrooms, geology, the night sky, mammals, and more.
Check out our selection of environmental writings from authors like Scott Weidensaul, Barbara Kingsolver, Michael Pollan, and Richard Louv. Or, if you need a blank nature journal, waterproof field guide, or a CD with recorded bird songs, we’ve got some great options. Be sure to also peruse our great selection of children’s books.
Our gift shop also carries Shaver’s Creek T-shirts, hoodies, and hats in a variety of colors and styles. Pick up some nature-inspired earrings or greeting cards, an Audubon plush bird, or a bird-feeder for your yard. Leading up to and following our Maple Harvest Festival, we also carry a supply of maple syrups, creams, and candies, as well as other maple sugar products.
Current natural history happenings are often highlighted on our bookstore whiteboard, including what flowers may be blooming on the trail or what birds are visiting our feeders. Information about upcoming programs and trail maps are also available. Be sure to ask at the desk if you’d like to sign up to become a member of Shaver’s Creek.
