Our Fall Open House is your chance to explore a wide variety of Shaver’s Creek programs, meet our staff, and have a fun day connecting with your local outdoors. From animal programs to live music to hands-on activities and more, we’ll have something for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s your first time at Shaver’s Creek or you’re a long-time visitor, come out to learn something new and explore all we’ve got to offer!

This event is free and designed for all ages. No registration required.

Ongoing Activities

  • Nature journaling: Use your senses to observe the forest around you through art and/or writing. No experience necessary!
  • Nature crafting: Make your own bookmarks with a variety of pressed flowers!
  • Live music: Enjoy live music from local folk band the Stone Valley Pickers. Break from 2:30–3:00 p.m.
  • Critter quest: Explore Shaver’s Creek with a self-guided scavenger hunt!
  • Leaf chromatography: Discover how leaves change color through the magic of chromatography!
  • Nature games: Ideal for ages 6–11. Connect with the forest while having fun! Games will include Bird Memory, Camouflage, Building a Bird’s Nest, and Colors of the Rainbow Scavenger Hunt.

Explore the Litzinger Herpetarium with our Wildlife Education team.
1:30 p.m. Aviary Program
Explore the Klingsberg Aviary with our Wildlife Education team.
2:15 p.m. Bird Walk
Head out to the trails for a guided bird walk with Harrier. Beginners welcome! Binoculars will be provided.
3:00 p.m. Herpetarium Program
Explore the Litzinger Herpetarium with our Wildlife Education team.
3:15 p.m. What’s Changing in Fall Walk
Take a walk on the trails with Merlin to learn about all the changes that fall brings to the forest.
3:30 p.m. Aviary Program
Explore the Klingsberg Aviary with our Wildlife Education team.
