Movie Screening: the Lost Bird Project

When: March 16, 2022, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Forest Resources Building, State College, PA
Add to Calendar: iCal | Google

Gone and nearly forgotten in extinction, the Labrador Duck, the Great Auk, the Heath Hen, the Carolina Parakeet, and the Passenger Pigeon leave holes not just in the North American landscape but in our collective memories. Moved by their stories, sculptor Todd McGrain set out to create memorials to the lost birds and to bring their vanished forms back into the world. The Lost Bird Project is a film about public art, extinction, and memory. It is an elegy to five extinct North American birds and a thoughtful, moving, sometimes humorous look at the artist and his mission.

The screening will be held in the Forest Resources Building auditorium. We encourage parking in the East Parking Deck. Masking is required.

As the presenting sponsor, Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center has brought the Lost Bird Project to central Pennsylvania. With five bronze sculptures of the most recently extinct North American birds, the Lost Bird Project serves as a dramatic reminder of the need for biodiversity.

This event is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of Shaver’s Creek members.
